Wills

The majority of my clients use living trusts to plan their estate, but some use wills. Generally, younger clients with newborn or small children decide to prepare wills because the risk of the death of both of them is small, and the cost of the trust is too high for them at this time as compared to that risk.

I offer a free initial consultation to decide if you would like to prepare wills. Please download the estate planning information sheet fill it out and call for an appointment. Generally, we have a brief meeting to discuss your case and then meet again to sign the documents. If you are short on time, we can substitute a conference call for the first meeting, if you have completed the form and faxed it to me. We can meet to sign the wills and this cuts a two-appointment process down to one appointment, although for the most part we do meet twice with most clients.

What’s Included with a Will

For a married couple we prepare the following:

  1. Wills with testamentary trusts for children (if the client has young children the will sets up a testamentary trust, that is a trust set up in a will after death)

  2. Power of attorney for health care

  3. Power of attorney for property

  4. Living will

  5. Instructions on changing beneficiary for life insurance and retirement funds.
